Stamps.com Receives Special Achievement Award from the U.S. Postal Service
NetStamps Wins Recognition as an Innovative New Form of PC Postage®
SANTA MONICA, Calif, — April 14, 2003 – Stamps.com (Nasdaq:STMP – News) today received a Special Achievement Award from the U.S. Postal Service for the company’s innovative development of NetStamps and for the application of NetStamps to the company’s growing marketing efforts. The company award was presented to Craig Ogg, Vice President of Research & Development, in recognition of his role in developing NetStamps, and to Kyle Huebner, Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, in recognition of his role in utilizing NetStamps innovatively in the company’s marketing initiatives. The award was presented today at the National Postal Forum in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the company is also exhibiting and demonstrating its online postage service, including NetStamps and its recently-launched Shipping Labels.
“Stamps.com is honored to receive this award recognizing NetStamps as an important contribution to the mailing industry, and in recognizing members of our senior management for their individual contributions,” said president and CEO Ken McBride. “In line with the Postal Service’s goals, NetStamps provides greater access and more convenient application of postage through innovative technology for individuals and businesses.”
Stamps.com originated the technology for printing this new form of PC Postage and is the only company approved to offer this product. With this new technology, any individual or business can print NetStamps postage on labels from a personal computer and use them just like regular stamps. NetStamps provides customers greater flexibility by allowing them to print postage and then store it for later use on any mail piece. At the same time, NetStamps postage provides the benefits of intelligent mail by producing I-Mail® letters and packages that are secure and traceable. The company uses NetStamps for its direct mail, fulfillment and customer communications mailings.
In addition to featuring NetStamps at the Stamps.com exhibit, the company is also demonstrating its Shipping Label feature. Introduced during the 2002 holiday season, this new functionality enables customers to conveniently print postage for packages on 8 ½” x 11” plain paper. Customers can add discounted electronic Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation service, for a savings of up to $0.50 per package. By using a Shipping Label with the package confirmation service, customers gain online access to check the delivery status of their package from within the Stamps.com software, thus eliminating the need to enter in long tracking numbers.
Since the launch of NetStamps and Shipping Labels, Stamps.com has seen strong customer acceptance of both new features of the service, resulting in dramatic growth of postage printing in its customer base.
