Customer Support: Troubleshooting: Firewall Issues If you use a security software like firewalls, Norton Internet Security, and ad-killing or popup-blocking programs like AdSubtract, Web-Blocker, Cookie Crusher, and the like, you may have trouble accessing your Stamps.com account. If you are running Windows XP, please double check your settings and make sure the built-in Windows XP firewall is not blocking Stamps.com (though you could try giving access to port 443). Another possiblity is any type of "download accelerator". We suggest you close all possible programs running on your computer and then try again to connect. If you're able to, that means that one or more of your programs are conflicting with Stamps.com. You could also try deleting any and all existing rules in your security/ad-blocking software for Stamps.com, and create new ones that permit access for the Stamps.com application IPOSTAGE.EXE. Test Your Computer http://esupport.stamps.com/test.exe You can run the above test program and see if your computer can connect to our systems. If you see that any of the tests show an ERROR, then there's something about your system that is preventing connection to Stamps.com. That's where you would doublecheck the programs running on your computer (security, ad-blocking, download accelerators, etc), make some changes, and then try again to print postage. Other Programs Another thing you can do is search your computer for so-called "spyware" programs that filter your Internet traffic and can sometimes conflict with Stamps.com. To do this, please run these two programs on your computer and see if they will allow you to print postage. They are completely free and are used by many customers on their computers. What you want to do first is install and run "Ad-Aware", which is downloadable at the following link: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ When you run it, it will search your system, delete some spyware programs, and then reboot your computer to do a deeper search and delete any remaining spyware it finds. After this process is done, install and run another program called "Spybot Search & Destroy". We use this program here at Stamps.com on our computers. Spybot Search & Destroy looks for other types of spyware, deletes those, and then reboots your computer a second time (again, to perform a deeper search and delete any remaining spyware). This program may be downloaded at the following link: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download After all this is done, please reboot your computer a final time and try again to sign on with Stamps.com. |
