How to use Reference Codes with Stamps.com
The Stamps.com Reference Code feature allows you to track your postage costs for accounting purposes, or to bill your customers for postage. Look for the reference field at the bottom of the MAILING or SHIPPING screens, set up your Reference Codes using the Reference Code button, then select the corresponding code each time you print.
To track your postage costs, scroll to the Reference field in the PRINTS report within the ACTIVITY tab.
How To Reference Codes:
- Go to the MAILING or SHIPPING screen.
- Enter the Delivery Address and all other relevant information as you normally would when printing postage.
- Before hitting Print, look for the Reference Code icon at the bottom right of the screen and click on it.

- Enter in your Reference Code in the New Reference Code field. Then click Add.

- Click "Close" to return to the Print Postage screen.
- The new Reference Code will now appear on your list.

- Load your envelope or label into your printer and click Print.
If you use between one and fifty reason codes,
Stamps.com will e-mail you a Reference Code Usage Summary Report at the end of each billing
cycle.
In the Printed Postage History report, you can sort by Reference Code by
clicking on the "Reference" header in the report window. You cannot edit the
codes in this report. However,you can export this file as a text or CSV file (by
clicking on the "export" button)and then store or manipulate the data.
